Broadcast Bootcamp
In step with best practices at the National Football League, GatorMade created its own Broadcast Bootcamp — a weekend workshop where students interested in TV, radio, podcasts or other media got the chance to hone their skills alongside professionals. Knowing that the UF College of Journalism and Communications offers one of the most comprehensive and hands-on sports media programs in the country, Florida Gators Football sought partnership with the College to bridge gaps between student and student-athlete experiences on campus. The immersive weekend included seven dedicated football scholar-athletes with their eyes set on an eventual career within broadcasting, whether that be after a professional playing career or immediately upon completion of their college studies. The initiative was divided into three primary areas of media: radio, television and podcasting. Each section featured professionals in that respective area, highlighting the interconnected skills and circles within sports journalism.
Media Training
Florida Football’s Sports Information Director, Scott Burns, and Voice of the Gators, Sean Kelly, prepare each player to communicate in personal and professional settings. During Fall Camp, they simulated media environments and hosted mock interviews, along with special guest Alumna Laura Rutledge, for evaluation and tips of the trade.
