Shawn Burke

  • Title
    Strength & Conditioning Coordinator
Shawn Burke enters his second season as the strength and conditioning coordinator for the Florida baseball program and his fifth year overall at the University of Florida in 2022-23.

In his first season with the program in 2022, the Gators hit 121 home runs as a team – the second-highest total in program history. For the first time ever, two Gators hit 20-plus home runs in the same season: outfielders Wyatt Langford (26) and Jud Fabian (24). Langford’s 26 home runs tied Matt LaPorta’s team record set in 2005.

Over the past five years, Burke has worked with various Florida athletic programs including baseball, softball and men’s tennis. Under his watch, Florida softball reached the 2019 College World Series and later claimed the 2021 SEC Championship. Burke also helped power men’s tennis to a National Championship and SEC title in 2021, while Sam Riffice claimed the 2021 Singles National Championship. One year later in 2022, Burke produced another NCAA Singles National Champion in Ben Shelton, who was subsequently named the ITA National Player of the Year. Shortly thereafter, Shelton made the decision to turn pro and has been turning heads in the professional ranks in the months since.

Prior to his time at UF, Burke was employed at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2016-18, working with baseball, softball, men’s gymnastics, women’s gymnastics, women’s soccer and cheer.

Throughout his career, Burke has trained over 30 active Minor League Baseball players. Additionally, he trained nine All-SEC selections and six All-America honorees in softball from 2019-21.

Burke also holds numerous certifications in his field. He holds status as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and is also certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.

Burke played collegiate football at the University of Rochester in New York, where he graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in Exercise Science with a Strength and Conditioning Concentration from Concordia University-Chicago in 2018.
