Keary Colbert enters his first season with the Gators after being hired as Florida’s assistant coach / wide receivers prior to the 2022 season.
Colbert arrived in The Swamp after spending the previous six seasons at his alma mater, USC, in roles of offensive analyst (2016-17), tight ends (2018) and wide receivers coach (2019-21).
He coached five NFL draft picks on the offensive side of the ball, including Drake London, Jordan Cameron, Michael Pittman Jr, Amon Ra St. Brown and Robert Davis. He developed Pittman Jr. into finishing top-20 nationally in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns while being a finalist for the Biletnikoff and Witten awards in 2019.
During the 2021 NFL season, St. Brown locked up the all-time Detroit Lion’s record for rookie receiving yards with 912 yards, while also notching a team-leading 5 touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Pittman led the Colts in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns and receiving touchdowns during the 2021 regular season. He was also named a NFL Pro Bowl Alternate.
Colbert worked with Florida Head Coach Billy Napier from 2014-15 as an offensive analyst at Alabama when the Tide won the National Championship in 2015 and went a combined 26-3.
Prior to his stint with Alabama, he was the wide receivers coach at Georgia State in 2013 and worked with Albert Wilson to a 1,000 yard pass catcher that year. Colbert arrived at GSU after serving as volunteer coach (2012) at Pace Academy in Atlanta.
A four-year starter at wide receiver at USC, he broke the program all-time receptions record (207) while gaining 2,964 receiving yards and 19 touchdown passes in his career.
Colbert was a team captain his senior year when the Trojans captured the 2003 National Championship and was a two-time All Pac-10 second-team selection (2002-03).
Colbert was drafted in the second round of the 2004 NFL draft by the Carolina Panthers and spent four seasons (2004-07) in Carolina where he set rookie season records for receptions (47), receiving yards (754) and receiving touchdowns (5). He also spent time with the Denver Broncos (2008), Seattle Seahawks (2008), Detroit Lions (2008-09) and Kansas City Chiefs (2011).
He started his coaching career with the USC staff in 2010 as a graduate assistant working with the tight ends.
An Oxnard, Calif., native, Colbert received his bachelor's degree in sociology from USC in 2006.
He and his wife, Safiya, have two sons; Kaden and Khari.
