Marcus Davis enters his first season as the team’s outside wide receivers coach.
He comes to Gainesville from Auburn, we he served as wide receivers coach for three seasons.
Davis was a four-year letterman from 2013-16 at Auburn, helping the Tigers win the Southeastern Conference title and earn an appearance in the BCS National Championship game as a freshman in 2013. He was also a team captain for his senior season in 2016.
“Coach Davis not only brings SEC coaching experience to our staff, but playing experience as well,” Sumrall said. “ He’s a Florida native who was a team captain and has produced as both a player and coach. There’s no doubt Coach Davis will prove to be a great addition for us.”
In 2025, Davis guided a trio of Auburn wide receivers who all tallied over 25 receptions, 450 receving yards and had at least two touchdowns. Cam Coleman led the Tigers with 708 receving yards and five scores on 56 receptions, while Eric Singleton Jr. had a team-high 58 receptions for 534 yards and three touchdowns. Malcolm Simmons added 457 receving yards on 25 receptions with two scores.

In 2024, his unit ranked 28th nationally in passing offense (263.9 ypg) and 15th nationally in yards per completion (13.77). Senior KeAndre Lambert-Smith ranked eighth nationally in yards per reception (19.62) and all-SEC freshman honoree Coleman and Simmons finished in the top three among Auburn career leaders for freshman receiving. Lambert-Smith ws a fifth-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Chargers, while Robert Lewis signed with Minnesota.
Davis returned to Auburn after serving as wide receivers coach at Georgia Southern in 2022.
Georgia Southern was fourth nationally in passing offense (329.2 ypg) and tied for 20th in the country with 28 passing touchdowns. GS receivers combined for a school-record nine 100-yard receiving games on the season. Davis coached receivers Khaleb Hood, Derwin Burgess Jr. and Jeremy Singleton, who ranked first, fourth and fifth respectively in the Sun Belt in receptions per game.
Davis spent the 2021 season as the wide receivers coach for Hawaii, where he coached all-conference selection Calvin Turner Jr., who earned an invitation to the East-West Shrine Bowl and second team all-Mountain West honors. The Rainbow Warriors had 3,916 yards receiving and 21 touchdown catches in an offense that averaged more than 300 passing yards per game.
Davis spent the 2020 campaign at Florida State as an offensive graduate assistant where he worked with the wide receivers and assisted with recruiting.
Prior to Florida State, Davis spent two seasons at Auburn. In 2019, Davis helped oversee player personnel and development for a squad ranked as high as No. 7 nationally. As an offensive analyst in 2018, he worked primarily with the coaches for the running backs and kick returners.
A four-year receiver at Auburn from 2013-16, Davis played a key role on four bowl teams. He was a starter in the 2014 BCS National Championship game against Florida State as a freshman. In total, Davis played in 50 career games with 15 starts. He served as a team captain as a senior and finished his career with 83 receptions and was eighth all-time at Auburn in punt return average (9.76) when his career concluded.
A native of Boynton Beach, Florida, where he was an all-state quarterback for American Heritage Boca Delray High, he graduated from Auburn with a bachelor’s degree in communication in 2016 and earned a master’s degree in education from Auburn in 2017. Davis was a multi-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Davis and his wife, Amberly, have two daughters, Milah and Ava.
