COACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
- A versatile teacher, Skipper has coached on both sides of the ball and has served for all or parts of four seasons as a defensive coordinator.
- Tutored Jordan Scarlett who carried the load for the Gators’ offense in 2016. Statistically he led the team with 179 carries, 889 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
- Scarlett’s 889 yards rushing was the most by a Florida freshman or sophomore running back since 1995.
- With Scarlett’s rushing touchdown against Georgia, he joined Kelvin Taylor (2015) as the only other UF running back since 2005 to score a rushing touchdown in six consecutive games.
- Coached Lamical Perine during his freshman season when he totaled 421 yards on 91 carries (4.6 avg) and one touchdown.
- Perine was the team’s leading rusher against Kentucky (105 yards) and Missouri (106 yards). For the season, Perine was one of 14 FBS true freshmen to post multiple 100-yard rushing games and one of eight to post both 100-yard games against a Power Five opponent. In addition, he became the first UF freshman running back since Jeff Demps in 2008 to have multiple 100-yard rushing games against SEC Opponents. Overall, he became the 16th UF true freshman since 1955 to rush for 100 yards in a game.
- Under Skipper’s direction in 2015, Taylor paced the Florida offense all season and became the ninth Gator to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. It was the 11th 1,000-yard rushing season in program history.
- Taylor’s 259 carries were the second-most by a Gator in a single season. Only Emmitt Smith (284 in 1989) logged more rushing attempts in a campaign. In addition, his 13 rushing touchdowns last year were the most by a Gator since 2009 (Tim Tebow, 14) and tied his father, Fred Taylor (1997), and Emmitt Smith (1987) for the fifth-most by a Gator in school history.
- Tutored linebacker Corey James at CSU, who ranks fifth in school history with 22 career sacks.
- Skipper played a role in coaching a CSU defense in 2013 that ranked third in the MW and 30th in FBS in rushing defense (140.6), fourth (46th FBS) in sacks (2.3 per game) and fourth in scoring defense (29.8).
- Three CSU defenders earned All-MW recognition in 2013, including MW Defensive Player of the Year, first-team All-MWC linebacker Shaquil Barrett and honorable mention All-MW linebacker Max Morgan.
- In his first season with the Rams, Skipper tutored Barrett to his first honorable mention All-Mountain West recognition, and redshirt freshman linebacker Cory James, was named second-team national all-freshman by Phil Steele for his CSU freshman-record 7.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss.
- At Fresno State with Skipper at the reins of the defense during a three-game stretch in 2011, the Bulldogs allowed 9.7 fewer points per game than they had over the first 10 games, 70.1 fewer rushing yards, and 25.3 fewer total yards.
- The Bulldogs advanced to four bowl games in Skipper's six seasons in Fresno, largely due to his development of all-conference linebackers Ben Jacobs and Travis Brown, and explosive running backs Ryan Mathews, Dwayne Wright, Lonyae Miller and Clifton Smith.
- In 2008, Skipper's final season as the Bulldogs' running backs coach, three of his players turned in games of 150-plus yards, including Mathews, who ranked 10th in the country at the time of his October injury.
- With Jim McElwain as offensive coordinator in 2007, Skipper's players averaged 4.7 yards per carry, and with 204.67 rushing yards per game, ranked No. 16 in the nation, helping the Bulldogs advance to the Humanitarian Bowl opposite Georgia Tech.
- In 2004, his initial campaign at the reins of the Sacramento State defense, the Hornets produced the Big Sky Conference leaders in tackles (Jimmy Ellingson), sacks (Jacob Houston) and interceptions (Ramon Payne), as well as Matt Logue, an All-American who finished his career as the school's career leader with 47 tackles for loss.
- He comes from a family of coaches. His father, Jim, has coached for four decades, including several NFL years with current Denver Broncos head coach John Fox in Carolina and time in the USFL, XFL and NCAA; he began his second stint as the Carolina Panthers' running backs coach in 2013. Tim's brother, Kelly, has been in the profession since 1989 and currently coaches running backs for the Oakland Raiders. Kelly was an All-American RB at Fresno State.
