Vernell Brown Jr. enters his sixth season with the Gators after joining the program in 2018.
Brown Jr. was promoted to senior director of player development and alumni relations in January, 2022 by Head Coach Billy Napier.
Brown Jr., who joined the Gators staff as director of student-athlete development in 2018, continues to play a key role in the program, serving as a lead for personal development, mental health, and collegiate affairs for current athletes.
A Gators football alumnus, Brown Jr. serves as a bridge between current athletes and former players. He also assists in creating connections between University of Florida and University Athletic Association personnel and current players to create a network of support.
A Gainesville native and a University of Florida graduate (2005), Brown Jr. played cornerback for the Gators from 2001-05 and appeared in 45 games throughout his career.
Brown Jr., who also served as team captain during his playing days, was once referred to as the "Face of Florida Football" due his tireless work ethic and leadership characteristics.
