Biography

Overview
  • Graduated with a degree in African American Studies in Spring 2022.
  • A regular in the Gators’ starting lineup throughout his two seasons, leading the Gators in assists both years.
  • Tallied 1,552 points and 5.4 assists over four seasons, including two at Cleveland State before transferring to UF.
  • Scored 653 points (11.1) and handed out 207 assists (3.5) in 59 appearances at Florida, including 44 games started.
  • Scored 899 points (14.3) and dished 297 assists (4.7) in 63 games at Cleveland State, starting 54 of his last 55 appearances.
  • Posted four 20-point games as a Gator, including a 26-point performance in a win vs. #2 Auburn.
  • Had a triple-double while at Cleveland State, tallying 19 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists vs. UW-Milwaukee.

2021-22, Senior Season
  • Averaged 10.9 points per game and led the Gators with 125 assists and 65 made 3-pointers.
  • Erupted for 26 points in the win vs. #2 Auburn, including 20 in the second half when he hit four of his six 3-point attempts.
  • Posted 21 points with 5-for-9 shooting from 3-point range in the win at Georgia.
  • A key part of three straight comeback wins against Oklahoma State, Missouri and Ole Miss at a critical juncture in the Gators’ season.
  • Led the Gators with 21 points, four assists and three steals in the 16-point rally vs. Oklahoma State, helping force 12 second-half turnovers.
  • Scored all 17 of his points in the second half as UF erased a nine-point deficit with 8:00 to go at Missouri. Appleby went 10-for-10 from the free throw line, and his pair of free throws with 7.9 seconds left put the Gators over the top for a 66-65 win.
  • Earned his first double-double as a Gator with 10 points and 10 assists Ole Miss, including a 7-for-8 free throw performance in the overtime session, as he helped bring Florida back from a nine-point halftime deficit to win the game.
  • Hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to help the Gators down Ohio State, rallying from 10 points down in the second half. Appleby was named to the all-tournament team for his heroics.

 2021-21, Junior Season
  • Averaged 11.3 points, a team-leading 1.5 steals and 3.3 assists, appearing in all 25 games with 17 starts.
  • Played a critical role ­in a pair of top-25 wins, tallying 13 points and seven assists vs. sixth-ranked Tennessee and going for 12 points, seven assists and five rebounds in a road win at No. 11 West Virginia.
  • Posted 18 double-figure scoring games, including a season-best 20 at Mississippi State. Appleby’s 11-for-11 performance from the free throw line marked UF’s most made free throws without a miss since KeVaughn Allen hit all 11 attempts vs. Gonzaga on Nov. 24, 2017.
  • Gave the Gators a spark in his Florida debut, scoring all 15 of his points in the second half in the win over Army.
  • Earned a SportsCenter Top-10 play with his off-the-backboard alley-oop to Scottie Lewis vs. Stetson.
 
2019-20, Redshirt Season
  • Competed on the scout team while sitting out as a transfer under NCAA rules.

2018-19, Sophomore Season (Cleveland State)
  • Started all 29 games played, averaging 17.2 points and 5.6 assists per game while shooting .389 from 3-point range with 74 made 3-pointers.
  • Scored in double figures 23 times and dropped 20+ points 11 times, including a pair of 30-point performances (37 vs. Bowling Green, 33 at UW-Milwaukee). Both of Appleby’s 30-point games also included seven made 3-point field goals.
  • Notched his first career triple-double with 19 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists vs. UW-Milwaukee and added two other points/assists double-doubles (26/11 vs. IUPUI, 12/10 vs. ND-Ohio).
 
2017-18, Freshman Season (Cleveland State)
  • Played in 34 games with 26 starts, averaging 11.8 points, 4.0 assists and 1.3 steals.
  • Four-time Horizon League Freshman of the Week (Dec. 4, Dec. 11, Jan. 15, Feb. 5).
  • Named to Horizon League All-Tournament team after averaging 15.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists in four games, helping the Vikings reach the championship Game.
  • Posted three 20-point games, including a season-best 25 in a win at UIC. Appleby also dished a season-high nine assists in the game.
 
Prep
  • Ranked among the top 10 players in Arkansas as a senior.
  • Earned all-state honors in each of his final three seasons and was Conference Newcomer of the Year as a freshman.
  • Averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists as a senior, while earning the McDonalds Full Court Award.
  • Named MVP of the Metro Classic All-Star game, scoring a game-high 32 points with eight three-pointers in the second half.
  • Averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists during his junior year.
  • Posted 11.2 points and 4.5 assists as a sophomore.
  • Earned the McDonalds Full Court Award as a sophomore and junior.

Personal
  • Son of Stanley Appleby and Latonya Cole
  • Has four siblings: Dontrell, Stanley II, Raheem and Shakyla.
  • Raheem played for Mike White at Louisiana Tech, earning first team All-Conference USA honors and totaling more than 1,700 career points.
  • Shakyla Hill played basketball at Grambling State and recorded two historic quadruple-doubles and totaled more than 2,000 career points along with 926 rebounds, 617 assists and 483 steals. She led her team to two SWAC Tournament championship game appearances and earned 2018 SWAC Tournament MVP honors.
  • Came to Florida because the team and coaching staff made it feel like home.
