Gators Women Tie for Ninth at NCAA Outdoor Championships
Saturday, June 11, 2016 | Track and Field
This is the third consecutive top-10 finish for UF’s women, marking the first time since 2008-10 it posted three straight top-10 finishes
EUGENE, Ore. – The University of Florida women's track and field team scored 17 points on Saturday (June 11), bringing their two-day total to 28 points and tying them for ninth place at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
This is the third consecutive top-10 finish for UF's women, marking the first time since 2008-10 it posted three straight top-10 finishes. This year is also the third in a row in which the Gators scored at least 28 points, tying the longest such streak in program history (2002-04).
Freshman jumper Yanis David had the day's top performance, posting a wind-aided 13.64-meter leap to take third place.
David is the first Gator freshman and seventh Division I freshman in history to record a top-three finish in the triple jump. Of those seven women, David and Georgia's Keturah Orji (2015), the two-time reigning national champion, are the only two to jump at least 13.64 meters.
In the 400 meters, Robin Reynolds clocked a season-best time of 51.84 to take sixth place, marking the highest finish by a Gator in the event since 2005, when Tiandra Ponteen took second place.
Claudia Francis took seventh place in the 400-meter hurdles, tying the third-best finish in school history.
Both Francis and Reynolds also ran on the team's 4x100 and 4x400 relays, which finished seventh and fifth, respectively.

HEARING OUT (COACH) HOLLOWAY
On what UF can take away from this meet as building blocks for next season…
"We have to get more depth, because when we have injuries, we need to have people we can fall back on. We to have some people that have a little bit more pride and passion for what we do here. I know we're young in some areas, but, at the end of the day, that falls on my shoulders. I've got to do a better job of recruiting, and I've got to do a better job of getting people in here that want to be great. That's what we're going to go out and do."
On some of the day's top performances…
"Proud of Robin's (Reynolds) last 400 meters race, and for her to come back and run a great leadoff leg on the 4x4. For Yanis to come in here as a freshman and finish third (in the triple jump). was phenomenal. The big thing as far as Claudia Francis goes, for her to be an All-American in an event she's only been running for three months is pretty phenomenal. Very proud of Claudia, and thankful for what she's done for the program over the last couple of years."
