NO. 8 FLORIDA SOCCER WINS FIRST-ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The eighth seeded University of Florida soccer team (21-2) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 7-3 defeat over North Carolina State in first-round play on Sunday at Percy Beard Stadium in front of 2,203 fans, the fifth largest crowd in UF history. Florida forward Danielle Fotopoulos led all scorers with three goals and one assist as she recorded her third hat trick of the year. She surpasses fellow forward Melissa Pini to become Florida's all-time leading goal scorer. Gator midfielder Erin Baxter also contributed with two goals and one assist in the match.
The Gators were the first on the scoreboard at 5:54 as Baxter netted her first goal. N.C. State's Monica Hall put the Wolfpack on the scoreboard at 16:16 on a 12-yard center shot after receiving the assist from Stepahanie Sanders. Sanders also assisted on the Wolfpack's second goal as she crossed the ball from the right corner to Jane Walton who knocked in the 13-yarder for the score. Fotopoulos would then score back-to-back goals in the first half to put the Gators up 3-2. Three minutes following Fotopoulos' first goal, N.C. State's Stacey Hampton was ejected after receiving her second yellow card, which forced the Pack to play the remainder of the match with 10 players on the field.
The second half opened with Fotopoulos scoring her third goal for the hat trick off a penalty kick. N.C. State's Monica Holliday then brought the Pack to within one at 66:46. Sarah Yohe upped the Gators' lead to two goals at 72:33 on the assist by Baxter. Baxter would follow up with her second goal at 82:20 on a 19-yarder off a Fotopoulos assist. The Gators scored their final goal with 1:40 remaining as Katie Tullis hit the back of the net on a 19-yard shot.
Florida will play host to the second-round of the NCAA Tournament, as UF will face Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Percy Beard Stadium. Wake Forest advances to the second round after defeating Clemson 2-1 on Sunday. Kickoff for the Florida/Wake Forest match is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the UF ticket office or at the gate on Saturday. Ticket prices are $6.00 for adults while tickets for children 18 and under, senior citizens and UF students are $4.00.
