Women's Swim/Dive Falls to Texas

Five event wins were not enough for the seventh-ranked University of Florida women's swimming and diving team as it was defeated, 168-132, by No. 12 Texas Saturday afternoon at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Complex.
Junior Jamie Johnson (Gainesville, Fla./Bolles School) posted a career-best time (16:36.90) and provisionally qualified for the NCAAs taking first in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Sophomore Natalie Nickson (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) also swam a career-best in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:02.44 and provisionally qualifying for the NCAAs. Nickson took second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 56.09 to provisionally qualify in that event also.
Freshman Desiree Frega (Aurora, Col./Kent Denver) took first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.84, while freshman Laura Cross (Pompano Beach, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) was first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:53.93). Junior diver Robyn Grimes (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) accounted for the Gators' last victory on the three-meter boards, posting a score of 318.30.
The Gators (8-2) will resume conference action next Saturday as they travel to Auburn for a 2 p.m. meet.
