Men's Golf Jumps to Tied for Sixth at Georgia

After a slow start in a round one finish of 12th, the Gators jumped to a T6 place after round two of the Carpet Capital Collegiate hosted by Georgia Tech Saturday, Oct. 6. Two UF golfers fired into top-20 places with one in the top-5.
Named 2001 Freshman of the year by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC), sophomore Camilo Villegas (Mendellin, Colombia) rocketed himself into fifth place, moving up 25 spots from T30 on Friday. Villegas carded eight birdies, one shy of the tournament record, finishing the day at 7-under 65.
After leading the Gators in round one, junior Bubba Dickerson (Hilliard, Fla.) now holds the second-place spot of the UF line-up. Dickerson moved up five spots to T17, shooting 1-under 71 for the day. Senior Camilo Benedetti (Mendellin, Colombia) follows at T43, with his two- round total of 152 (+8).
The fresh faces of the line-up cap off UF's scoring. Junior Ari Savolainen (Helsinki, Finland) shot a 4-over in round two to move into T54 with his 155 (+11) total. In his first-ever tournament with the Gators, sophomore Robert Litsey (Palataka, Fla.) is tied for 73rd at 162 (+18).
Pushing their lead even deeper, host Georgia Tech shot a 6-under 282, sliding into a 14-under 562, and also boasts the individual leader. Troy Matteson shot a 3-under 69 Saturday, to move into first with a 7-under 137.
