Fourth-ranked Florida remained undefeated after posting a 6-1 victory over LSU in the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Tennis Stadium. The Gators improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference, while the Tigers fell to 8- 2, 2-1 in league action.
The victory was Florida's 25th consecutive win over LSU.
"We played better today, but we're still not taking full advantage of the opportunities in front of us," UF head coach Andy Brandi said.
Florida opened the match winning the doubles point, claiming two of three positions. UF's 14th-ranked duo of Whitney Laiho and Jessica Lehnhoff clinched the doubles point with a convincing 8-2 win over Amy McIlhaney and Fernanda Tsucamoto. Florida opened the match winning at the No. 2 position, where Stephanie Hazlett and Julia Scaringe defeated Tami Botts and Lauren Haddix 8-1. Florida dropped the No. 3 doubles match, with the rookie duo of Annika Bengtsson and Lindsay Dawaf falling to Rocio Fantilli and Mandy Rice 8-5.
Florida captured five of the six singles matches to secure the dual match victory. Whitney Laiho raced out and won the first six games of the No. 1 match against Rocio Fantilli en route to the 6-0, 6-3 victory.
At No. 2, UF's Jessica Lehnhoff had little trouble with Lauren Haddix posting a 6-2, 6-0 win. Gator freshman Lindsay Dawaf topped Tami Botts 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot, while senior Stephanie Hazlett downed Fernanda Tsucamoto 6-2, 6-1. Florida claimed the dual match point from the No. 6 match, where freshman Annika Bengtsson defeated Amy McIlhaney 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Julia Scaringe was the only Gator who was unable to produce a singles victory, dropping a 6-0, 1-6, 10-8 decision where a super-tiebreaker was played to determine the winner.
Florida continues its SEC road trip, next playing at Arkansas on Tuesday, March 6.
