The fourth-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team defeated No. 24 Arkansas Tuesday afternoon 6-1 in the UA Tennis Complex. The win improved the Gators overall record to 6-0 this season and 4-0 in the Southeastern Conference. The Lady Razorbacks fell to 5-4, 1-4 in the SEC.
Florida is a perfect 12-0 all-time against Arkansas after today's contest, including a 5-0 record in Fayetteville.
"This wasn't a particularly pretty match for us, but we got the job done," UF head coach Andy Brandi said. "We just can't wait to return to Florida where we can play outside again."
For the sixth consecutive match, the Gators raced out and captured the doubles point, sweeping all three positions.
In singles actions, senior Whitney Laiho, ranked No. 27, was the only Gator who was unable to pull out a victory, falling to 26th-ranked Chin Bee Khoo 6-3, 6-4. Florida won the remaining five singles matches in straight sets, highlighted by freshman Annika Bengtsson's 6-2, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 position. The Gator rookie is now 6-0 in dual match singles play this season.
The Gators do not compete again until Monday, March 12, when Florida plays host to No. 20 Wake Forest at 5:00 p.m. That dual match begins a hectic schedule for the Gators, who play five matches over a seven-day span. The Demon Deacons snapped Florida's 114-match regular season winning streak last season.
