Gator Track Finish Home Season with Strong Meet

The University of Florida track and field teams hosted the Florida Field Event Classic at Percy Beard Stadium this afternoon. After three days at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, the Gators got right back into action.
Laura Hawkins started off the day with a win in the pole vault. She cleared a height of 3.87m/12-8.25 to improve her provisional status for the NCAA Championships. Kimberli Barrett won the women's shot put event with a throw of 14.39m/47-2.5. She then won the discus with a mark of 148-4 and was the only double-winner of the day. Jukina Dickerson continued the trend with a winning hammer throw of 58.7m/192-7.
Heather Ward ran a seasonal best 65.00 in the 400m hurdles to finish second behind former Gator All-American Cara Evans. Norma Vega took first place in the 3,000m run with a winning time of 10:41.72. Alicia Weber and Jacqueline Mariani rounded out second and third place for the Gators in the 3000m run with times of 10:59.76 and 11:00.9 respectively.
Riley Tomlinson was a highlight for the men's team today. In his last home meet, he won the pole vault with a personal best height of 16-11.5. Paul Condron was second with a height of 16-5.5. Matt Vincent won the men's high jump by clearing a height of 6-11.75. Joe Squittieri and Erik Rodriguez posted personal bests in the high jump with heights of 6-11.75 and 6-8 respectively. Vincent is a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships with a height of 7-3.75 from a past meet. Carlos Hinojosa was the winner of the 3,000m, a non-NCAA event, with a time of 8:45.36. It is his first career win.
The Gators have a week off before the SEC Championships May11-13 in Columbia, S.C.
