Men's Track Team Notches 4 Provisional Qualifiers

The University of Florida men's track team was in Atlanta, Ga., for the Yellow Jacket Invitational this afternoon. After the day was over, Florida had four provisional qualifiers, three of which were new for the team this season.
One of the big stories of the day was Matt Vincent's high jump of 7-3.75. The height is a provisional mark for the sophomore and a new personal best. Vincent now moves to third on the all-time Florida list. His previous career high was set in his fifth place finish at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Santiago, Chile last fall.
Senior Maurice Lewis, who struggled a bit during the indoor season, was back in form today after posting a provisional mark in the long jump. Lewis jumped 25-6.75, which was well beyond the provisional standard for the NCAA Championships.
Lewis and Vincent are joined today as provisional qualifiers by two Gator sprinters. Geno White ran 45.54 in the 400m to qualify for the championship meet. White had an automatic qualifying time in the 200m earlier this season and is Florida's first double-qualifier of the outdoor season. Stephen Jones qualified for the 110m hurdles at last weekend's Florida Relays with a time of 13.84. This weekend, Jones bettered his standing with a time of 13.81 into a stiff headwind.
Florida nearly had another qualifier in the meet. Senior Mike King was .07 second shy of the provisional mark in the 400m hurdles. King had a time of 51.47. Moise Joseph and Chris Duncan finished two-three in the 1,500m with times of 3:48.70 and 3:49.40 respectively.
Pole vaulter Riley Tomlinson set a new seasonal best with a height of 16-6.75. Teammate Jeff Amann set a new lifetime best with a mark of 16-0.75. Jeff Rubenstein was a double winner in the meet, taking the shot put and discus titles. He threw 52-8 in the shot put and then marked at 154-11 in the discus.
The Gators will send several athletes to the Sea Ray Relays next weekend for a competition that runs from April 11-14 in Knoxville, Tenn.
