No. 10 Men's Tennis Loses at No. 15 Tenn., 6-1
Saturday, April 6, 2002 | Men's Tennis
The match opened with the Vols taking a tightly contested doubles point. UT was a quick 8-1 winner at No. 1 but the lower two matches both found their way to a tiebreaker. Moments after Behrmann and Troy Hahn posted a 9- 8 (6) win at No. 3 to even the score, Tennessee’s Peter Handoyo and Adam Carey came through at No. 2 with a 9-8 (4). The Behrmann/Hahn tandem has been successful for Florida this year, posting a 10-4 dual match record with at least one victory at each of the three doubles positions.
Florida lost five of six in singles to account for the lopsided final. Behrmann picked up a victory for the Gators at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6- 3 win over Simon Rea. It is Behrmann’s sixth win of the year in SEC play, and his 11th dual match singles win overall, tying him for the team lead with Eleazar Magallan and Olivier Levant. In his first two years at UF combined, Behrmann had only won nine singles dual matches. UT’s clinching win came at No. 6 when Wade Orr beat Gainesville’s Trey Johnson, 6-1, 6-3.
The road does not get any easier for the Gators as they head to Athens, Ga. on Sunday for a match against No. 1 Georgia, the defending national champion, at 1:00 pm. The Bulldog lineup features Matias Boeker who won a rare NCAA Triple Crown in 2001, taking home national team, singles and doubles titles.
