Gator Harrier 174th at NCAA Championships
Monday, November 24, 2003 | Cross Country
University of Florida cross country athlete Steve Zieminski finished 174th at the 2003 NCAA Championships at Irv Warren Memorial Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa. Zieminski was the first Gator to qualify for the event in two years.
In below freezing temperatures, Zieminski finished the 10K race in 31:29.4, the 10th fastest Florida time ever in an NCAA Championships race. His time was the fastest Florida time in the NCAA Championships since Chris Wilson ran 31:28.1 exactly 10 years ago in 1993.
"It was an experience," Zieminski said. "It was great to be here. It leaves me knowing there is more to do. I want to be back here next year with my whole team.""(Steve) did a nice job," head coach Jeff Pigg said. "He was competing well and passing people and it is hard to compete without your team. Him getting here is a big step for our program. He can use this experience to tell the other guys what it is like and it will help him to be a better leader next season."
