Men's T&F Notches Four Wins at Texas Invitational

The University of Florida men's track and field team completed competition Saturday at the Texas Invitational with a total of four wins and 18 NCAA Regional qualifying marks. All four of Saturday's wins came in distance events.
Moise Joseph won the 800m dash in 1:48.18, the best time for any Florida runner in the 2003 outdoor season. Steve Zieminski came in fourth at 1:50.10, while Ali Abiola clocked in at 1:55.81 to finish 16th. Freshman Shane Stroup also tallied a win for the Gators, winning the 1,500m run in 3:48.75.
In the 3,000m steeplechase, Daniel Parker won in 9:05.37, with Donnell Bowen following in fourth place at 9:41.99. Carlos Hinojosa rounded out the wins for the Gators in his first appearance of the outdoor season, clocking in at 14:58.75 in the 5,000m run, while Brent Schneider finished third at 15:00.82.
In the sprint events, Kyle Farmer was the runner-up in the 100m dash in 10.29, which is the eighth best time in school history. Farmer was followed by Mike Loyd in 13th (10.62) and Chris Carswell in 24th (11.00). In the 200m dash, Ahmad Jasmine was the top finisher for the Gators, crossing the line in 20.82 to finish fourth, while Sekou Clarke finished ninth (21.13) and Loyd clocked in at 21.59 to finish 16th. Rickey Harris was the runner-up in the 400m dash at 45.42, just .01 off the winning time, and Clarke finished eighth at 46.96.
Josh Walker continued his success this outdoor season, finishing second in the 110m hurdles in 13.76, while Loyd followed at 14.19 to finish seventh. Dwight Ruff also placed second, this time in the 400m hurdles in 50.39.
Both relay teams finished in second place, with the 4x100m team of Jasmine, Farmer, Loyd and Clarke clocking in at 39.77 and Jasmine, Ruff, Stefan Pastor and Joseph finishing the 4x400m relay in 3:06.79.
In the field events, Brian DaCunha finished second in the pole vault, clearing 5.30m/17-4.50, which is tied for seventh in Gator history. Paul Condron followed with a clearance of 5.05m/16-6.75 to finish ninth. Alex Harris placed second in the long jump, reaching 7.36m/24-1.75, while Reggie McCutchen finished eighth with a jump of 7.15m/23-5.50. Antonio Emperator was also a runner-up in the hammer throw with his mark of 56.84m/186-6.
Ryan McIntyre finished third in the discus, reaching 57.26m/187- 10. McIntyre also competed in the shot put, finishing 12th with a mark of 15.01m/49-3. Richard Lawrence was the Gators' top finisher in the triple jump, reaching 14.61m/47-11.25m, and Harris finished ninth at 14.25m/46- 9. In the high jump, Matt Vincent cleared 2.05m/6-8.75 to finish seventh.
The women's team hosts the Florida Women's Track and Field Classic Sunday at Percy Beard Track beginning with field events at 2:30 p.m. Running events begin at 6:15 p.m. The men's team will refrain from competition and continue to train for the Southeastern Conference Championships, which will be held May 15-18 in Knoxville, Tenn.
