Monday, October 25, 2004 | Women's Tennis
The University of Florida's Whitney Benik (Delray Beach, Fla.) and Lolita Frangulyan (Bradenton, Fla.) reached the final of the Wilson/ITA South Regional Women's Tennis Championship Sunday, but were forced to withdraw after one of the Gators suffered a hamstring injury.
"Whitney and Lolita played well all weekend and it's disappointing they won't have a chance to finish the tournament," UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said.
The Gator pair began the day winning their 10th consecutive match by defeating Georgia's Natalie Frazier and Shadisha Robinson 8-4 in the semifinals.
UF freshman Alex Liles (Largo, Fla.) also saw her run in the singles draw end Sunday, as she dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Miami's top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Megan Bradley in the quarterfinal round.
