Florida senior Camilo Villegas (Medellin, Colombia) became the second Gator this season to be named the Southeastern Conference's Men's Golfer of the Week as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
Villegas set the Florida record by winning his eighth career tournament at the Atlanta Intercollegiate on Tuesday in moving past Chris DiMarco's total of seven. Villegas shot a 204 (-12) to win the tournament for the second consecutive season. His score was the fourth best by par in school history and the third best of his career. With the win, his second of the season, Villegas also became the first player in school history to win at least two titles in a season three times.
At the conclusion of regular season play, Villegas leads the Gators in scoring average (70.76) low tournament score (204), rounds counted (27.5), average strokes behind the leader (1.83), even or under par rounds (22) and top-five finishes (six).
Florida golfers have now earned the SEC honor three of the five times it's been handed out this season with sophomore Matt Every (Daytona Beach, Fla.) claiming the other two.
The Gators will return to action for the SEC Championships April 16-18 at Sea Island Golf Course in Sea Island, Ga.
