The successful day for the Florida was started by the newest Gator in Jackson Ormond, an incoming freshman from Rochester, New York. Right after Ormond, Alejandro Tosti (2015-18 & UF Grad 2020) became the second Gator to claim a spot, finishing runner-up (-8) at Lambton Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. After an opening-round of 68 (-1), the 2017 SEC Individual Champion clinched his U.S. Open debut in style by tying the course record of 63 (-7).
The third UF golfer to book his trip to Shinnecock was Gator Great, Billy Horschel (2006-09), who will make his 13th appearance at the U.S. Open. He finished T3 (-7) and was clutch down the stretch, making three birdies in his last five holes for a second round of 65 (-5), adding to his 68 (-2) in his first 18-holes.
