
Florida finishes runner-up to begin season

SEATTLE - The No. 1 Florida men's golf team finished runner-up in the season opener at the Sahalee Players Championship on Sunday. Jack Turner (7th) and Parker Sands (T9) led the Gators lineup in the first tournament of the 2026-27 campaign.
UF's second place outing was their second in the last three seasons at the tournament as No. 2 Oklahoma State took home the team title among a 12-team field with nine top-30 teams.
After being the top finisher in four tournament last season (team-best), Turner picked up where he left off with his solo 7th. Today's round marked the 100th career stroke play round for the senior and the performance was his 17th career top-10. Two shots behind him was junior Parker Sands in a tie for 9th, adding to now seven top-10s in 16 career tournaments. He logged a bogey-free 2-under back nine.
Luke Poulter (T25) and Trevor Gutschewski (T27) concluded a shot from one another while Parker Severs rounded out the lineup in T41. Noah Kent, who was playing as an individual this weekend, tied for 51st.
The Gators have a quick turn around and head to Olympia Fields (Sept. 18-20) for the Fighting Illini Collegiate.
