Chicago - Play was stopped due to darkness during the second round of the Fighting Illini Collegiate, but the No. 1 Florida men's golf team was among the teams to complete 36 holes on Friday, positioning the Gators tied for ninth at 13-under at Olympia Fields Country Club.
The resumption of the second round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. restart Saturday. Due to rainy weather, the schedule was adjusted to 36 holes on Friday, with the final 18 holes slated for Saturday, if necessary.
The par-70 South Course has played low, with the field averaging 68.77 through two rounds. Fourteen of the 15 teams are under par, with host Illinois (-26) holding a one-shot lead over Texas Tech.
Sophomore Trevor Gutschewski set a new career low with a bogey-free 65 (-5), tied for the sixth-lowest score by a Gator sophomore in program history. He has three holes remaining in his second round and sits at even-par and tied for 13th. The Omaha, Nebraska, native is competing as an individual this weekend.
Also tied for 13th is Jack Turner, who is in the No. 1 spot in the lineup. He opened with a 68 (-2), as all six Gators shot under par in the opening round. The senior followed with a bogey-free 67 (-3) in his second round and has carded five birdies, 30 pars and one bogey across his 36 holes.
One shot behind the top Gators are Josh Bai and Luke Poulter, who are tied for 22nd. Poulter carded a pair of 68s, while Bai followed with rounds of 67 and 69.
Rounding out the lineup are Zack Swanwick (T58) and Parker Sands (T64).
