University of Florida men's golf senior Camilo Villegas (Medellin, Colombia) will be inducted into the University of Florida's Hall of Fame along with 24 other students at a ceremony on April 19.
The honor is one of the most prestigious awarded to students by the UF Division of Student Affairs and is limited to a small fraction of the 45,000-plus student body. Since 1921, the University of Florida Hall of Fame has recognized seniors and graduate students who have consistently demonstrated an outstanding commitment to improving the University of Florida through campus and community involvement, participation in organized campus activities and scholastic achievement.
Villegas, a business administration major, has also excelled for Florida on the golf course. He was honored by the University Athletic Association with the Ben Hill Griffin Award as the school's top male athlete for the 2002-03 season. Earlier this year, he claimed his eighth career victory, which stands as the most by any Gator since complete records were kept in 1975. Villegas, currently ranked as the No. 3 player in the nation in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, leads the top-ranked Gators in stroke average (70.76), even or under par rounds (22) and is second in top-10 finishes (7).
Villegas and the Gators return to action on Friday for the 2004 SEC Championships at Sea Island Golf Club at St. Simons Island, Ga. Live scoring and tournament information can be found at www.secsports.com
