Gator Men?s Tennis Tops No. 33 TCU, 5-2

The eighth-ranked University of Florida men's tennis team took a break from conference action on Friday, March 18, as the Gators defeated No. 33 TCU, 5-2, in Gainesville to extend their season-long win streak to five-straight matches. With the win, UF improved to 10-4 on the year while the Horned Frogs fell to 5-6.
Florida dropped the doubles point for the sixth time this season to fall behind 1-0 in just under an hour. On court two, UF's Chris Brandi and Vladimir Obradovic moved to 4-4 on the season as they were defeated by TCU's Jordan Freitas and Jacob Martin, 8-5. The Horned Frog tandem of Andrew Ulrich and Radu Barbu used the same score on court three against Ryan Sherry and Jordan Dolberg to secure the point, marking the first time this season the UF duo has lost back-to-back matches.
Florida did come away with an 8-5 win of its own on the top court when Hamid Mirzadeh and Greg Ouellette paired to defeat Fabrizio Sestini and Rafael Abreu. With the victory, Florida's top duo improved to 5-3 on the year in dual matches.
Ouellette evened the match with a quick 6-2, 6-0 win over Freitas on court three in singles play. With the win, the Gator freshman moved his dual match record to 8-3 on the year by winning his fifth-straight match in just over an hour.
Obradovic came up with a 6-3, 6-2 win one spot higher in the lineup over Barbu to give the Gators their first lead in the match on the afternoon. The win was the third consecutive in straight sets for the UF senior.
Sherry got UF to within one point of clinching the match with a straight set decision over Ulrich at the bottom of the lineup (6-0, 6-2). Sherry's fifth-straight win carried his dual match record to 9-2 this season, which is the second best mark on the squad.
Sestini (No. 21) got TCU back on the board with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Mirzadeh (No. 41) at the top of the order. However, UF freshman Nestor Briceno got the Gators the win with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory on court four against Abreu.
Brandi, who transferred to UF from TCU following his freshman season, added to UF's total as he outlasted Martin on court five 6-4, 6-7 (2), 6-3. With his victory, Brandi improved to 10-2 in dual matches to lead the team.
Florida finishes its seven-match home stand on Saturday, March 19, as the Gators host No. 72 South Florida. The match begins at 1 p.m. at the Ring Tennis Complex.
