Gator Men?s Tennis Defeats No. 72 USF, 6-1

The eighth-ranked University of Florida tennis team completed a regular season sweep of in state opponents by defeating No. 72 USF on Saturday in Gainesville, 6-1. The win was the sixth straight improving UF to 11-4 on the season, while the Bulls dropped their eighth straight in falling to 3-11. In addition, the victory also kept fourth-year UF head coach Andy Jackson perfect against in state foes (14-0).
Florida shuffled the doubles lineup and won the point with wins on each of the courts. Senior Hamid Mirzadeh slid down to court two where he teamed with Jordan Dolberg for the first time this season. The two came up with an 8-3 victory against Juan Carlos Gomez and Juan Barragan in 37 minutes. Two minutes later, Nestor Briceno and Stefan Tell secured the 1-0 lead for UF with an 8-4 win against Dillon Brozyna and Marc Jagr at the bottom of the lineup.
UF's Chris Brandi and Vladmir Obradovic appeared on the top court for the first time this season and came all the way back from a 7-3 deficit to defeat Uli Kiendl and Federico Barton, 9-8 (7). With the win, the UF pair improved to 5-4 in dual matches on the season.
In singles play Obradovic (No. 78) gave the Gators a 2-0 lead as he picked up a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Barragan on court two. The win was his fourth straight, all of which have come in straight sets.
Florida was on the brink of getting the win one minute late when Dolberg came up with a 6-3, 6-2 straight set win of his own on court five over Gomez. Dolberg, who was appearing in his first singles dual match since Feb. 18 (vs. Ole Miss) moved his record to 2-0 at the sport in the order.
Ryan Sherry clinched the match for the Gators as he won his fifth straight match with a 6-3, 6-3 showing against Matias Sigal at the bottom of the lineup. The win improved Sherry's singles record to 10-2 on the season, which is tied with Brandi for the best mark on the squad.
Freshman Greg Ouellette (No. 29) made it a 5-0 match in Florida's favor with his fifth consecutive win on court three. Ouellette defeated Federico Barton 6-4, 6-3 to move to 8-3 in dual match play this season.
Mirzadeh snapped a two-match losing skid by edging Kiendl in a tiebreaker in the third set on the top court in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (8), 10-4. Mirzadeh evened his dual record at 7-7.
Briceno was the only Gator to give up a point as he dropped a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 match to Andreas Maroldt on court four. The loss snapped a five-match win streak for the UF freshman
Florida, which closed out a seven-match home stand against the Bulls, returns to action and takes to the road for the first time in over a month with a visit to Auburn on March 25 at 6 p.m.
