Shelton, Hidalgo Primed for Play at Wimbledon

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Two Florida Gators are set to compete in London as the 139th edition of the Wimbledon Championships begin on Monday, featuring Ben Shelton (UF 2020-22) in the singles bracket and Diego Hidalgo (UF 2013-16) in doubles.
Men's singles competition opens on Monday, June 29 while doubles get underway on Wednesday, July 1. Making his fourth-career Wimbledon appearance, the No. 4-seeded Shelton takes an 8-3 career record at the All England Club into his first-round match against unseeded, world No. 140-Otto Virtanen on Tuesday, June 30 at 7:10 a.m. ET on Court 2. Meanwhile, Hidalgo and doubles partner Matej Vocel draw 11th-seeded Francisco Cabral and Lucas Miedler in the first round on Wednesday, July 1 (time TBD).
Fresh off a trip to the Wimbledon quarterfinals one year ago, Shelton has won at least one match in all three prior appearances at the event from 2023-25. The Gainesville, Fla. native has advanced deeper into the tournament in each successive appearance, having also played in the Round of 16 in 2024 prior to last summer's historic run. Shelton enters his first-round match vs. Virtanen boasting a 25-10 singles record in 2026 highlighted by a trio of titles at the Boss Open, BMW Open and Nexo Dallas Open. Fresh off a dominant performance on grass at the Boss Open, Shelton is currently ranked No. 5 in the world.
As for Hidalgo, the Guayaquil, Ecuador product is primed for his third Wimbledon appearance in doubles including his first since 2024. He produced his best finish with a spot in the Round of 32 alongside Christian Rodriguez in 2022.
