Men?s Tennis Holds Off Hurricanes, 5-2

The top-ranked University of Florida men's tennis was swept on the doubles courts, but bounced back to win five-of-six in singles to take a 5-2 victory against No. 40 Miami Friday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
With the victory against the Hurricanes, UF head coach Andy Jackson remained perfect (22-0) against in state opponents during his five seasons in Gainesville.
After dropping the doubles point for the first time on the season, UF's 90th-ranked Vladimir Obradovic evened the score when he defeated Miami's 87th-ranked Josh Cohen 6-4, 6-4 on court No. 3.
Newcomer Ryan Sweeting got the first victory of his collegiate career against a ranked opponent to pull the Gators ahead as he knocked off 25th-ranked Luigi D'Agord at the top of the order, 7-5 6-2.
Sophomore Greg Ouellette slipped in the first set one court down against Danny Vallverdu, 2-6, but gave the Gators a 3-1 advantage with scores of 6-3, 6-2, in the second and third sets, respectively. The win was the 17th consecutive regular season dual match singles victory for Ouellette.
For the second straight match, sophomore Nestor Briceno provided the winner with a straight set 6-4, 6-4 victory over Eric Hetchman at No. 5. Redshirt senior Chris Brandi rounded out the UF scoring at the bottom of the lineup with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory against Miami's John Hoyes. With the win, he moved his dual match record to 4-0 to equal Ouellette's for the best among the Gators.
Florida returns home to take on South Florida on Sunday, Feb. 5 at 1 p.m.
