VB's McCray Named To SEC Community Service Team
Thursday, November 22, 2007 | Volleyball
University of Florida senior opposite hitter Amber McCray (Longview, Texas) picked up her second Southeastern Conference honor in as many days on Wednesday when the league office announced the SEC Volleyball Community Service Team.
On Tuesday, McCray was named to the All-SEC first team for the second-straight season. The Longview, Texas, native's selection to the Community Service Team is the first of her career.
A 2007 Academic All-America candidate, McCray has been active in the Gainesville community during her career. In addition to her visits to children in the pediatrics ward at SHANDS Hospital, she has worked at local elementary schools to help develop motor skills in handicapped pre-k children. McCray has also taken action in the fight against cancer, participating in the Climb for Cancer Sports Camp and the Cure for Design Fashion Show during her tenure at Florida.
McCray is averaging 3.11 kills per game, good for second on the team, in 2007, while also ranking fifth in the SEC with a hitting percentage of .357. She needs just 46 kills to reach 1,000 for her career, a feat that would give UF three 1,000-kill players on its roster for the first time in school history.
The Gators return to action on Friday night, when they take on Yale at 8 p.m. ET to open the Baden Thanksgiving Tournament, hosted by Long Beach State. Radio coverage of the match can be found on WRUF-AM 850, as well as www.GatorZone.com.
