VB Caps Successful Season With 17th-Straight Top-15 Finish
Wednesday, December 19, 2007 | Volleyball
The University of Florida volleyball team has been awarded the No. 8 spot on the final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll of the 2007 season, which was released Wednesday afternoon.
The Gators' final ranking marks the 17th-consecutive year in which they've placed among the top 15 teams on the season's final poll, a streak that ranks second in the nation behind only Nebraska (24).
UF posted a 29-3 record in 2007, winning its 17th-consecutive Southeastern Conference title to tie an NCAA volleyball record. Only Nebraska, which won 17-straight titles in the now defunct Big 8 Conference, has held such a monopoly on conference championships in the sport.
The 2007 campaign also saw the Gators extend the nation's longest streak of 25-win seasons to 17 in a row, while reaching the NCAA regional semifinals for the 16th time in the 17-year tenure of head coach Mary Wise. Florida also surpassed the 700-win mark as a program during the year.
The Orange and Blue also set school records for kills per game (17.49) and points per game (22.17) in 2007.
