Former University of Florida women's basketball standout DeLisha Milton-Jones was selected to the 2007 WNBA All-Star Team, the league announced Monday.
Milton-Jones was one of six reserves selected to the Eastern Conference roster by a vote of conference coaches, who are not allowed to vote for players on their own team.
A nine-year veteran of the WNBA, Milton-Jones is in her third year as a member of the Washington Mystics, which also plays host to the 2007 WNBA All-Star Game that will be played on Sunday, July 15th at the Verizon Center. The game will be televised nationally on ABC at 3:30 p.m. EST.
This season, Milton-Jones is averaging 14.0 points, 5.72 rebounds and a team-leading 1.28 blocks per game, through contests played July 9th.
This is the second All-Star appearance for Milton-Jones, who also was selected in 2000 when she was a member of the Los Angeles Sparks. Her inclusion on the 2007 WNBA All-Star Team marks the fifth different time a former Gator was selected. Merlakia Jones was voted a WNBA All-Star in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
During her four years (1994-97) at Florida, Milton-Jones helped the Gators to a 91-34 (.728) record and four NCAA Tournaments, including the 1997 Elite Eight. The 1997 Wade Trophy recipient, she also collected 1997 NCAA Mideast Regional Most Outstanding Player honors and was tabbed a 1997 All-America first team performer by the Associated Press, Kodak/WBCA and Basketball Times. The 1997 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Player of the Year, Milton-Jones remains among the top 10 in the all-time Florida record book for several categories, including No. 1 for steals (281), fourth for points (1,858) and rebounds (1,109) and second for blocked shots (172).
