Friday, January 25, 2008 | Volleyball
Seven University of Florida volleyball players were named to the 2007 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll on Friday in an announcement by the league office.
Seniors Marcie Hampton (Gainesville, Fla.), Kisya Killingsworth (Deltona, Fla.), Amber McCray (Longview, Texas) and Angie McGinnis (Fraser, Mich.) were honored, as were juniors Kelsey Bowers (Gainesville, Fla.) and Christina Diaz (Hollywood, Fla.) and sophomore Kristina Johnson (Indianapolis, Ind.).
The Gators' seven selections capped a successful fall semester in which they posted a 3.13 cumulative grade-point average as a team, and brought UF's all-time total of SEC Academic Honor Roll accolades to 160 by 52 players. This year's tally marks the fourth-consecutive year, and fifth in the last six, that at least seven Florida volleyball earned inclusion on the fall honor roll.
A second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in 2007, McCray picked up the fourth SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition of her career on Friday, becoming just the second player in program history to claim that distinction.
The award marked the third for Hampton and McGinnis, as well as the second for Bowers, Diaz, Johnson and Killingsworth.
The honor roll is based on grades from the 2007 spring, summer and fall terms. A student-athlete must have at least a 3.0 GPA for the academic year or cumulative to be named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
