Wednesday, October 22, 2008 | Cross Country
For the first time this season, both the University of Florida men's and women's cross country teams are nationally ranked by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The women have earned a consistent spot in the national poll, fluctuating between No. 14 and 15 all four weeks. After a fifth-place finish at the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., the Gators sit in the 14th spot with 202 votes. They also are ranked No. 2 in the South Region, only behind instate-rival Florida State.
For the first time in the 2008 campaign, the men received enough votes to place in the top 30, ranking 28. The Gators garnered 48 votes coming off a 12th-place finish at the Pre-National meet. They are also ranked fourth in the South Region, behind Southeastern Conference opponents Alabama and Auburn, as well as FSU.
Next up for the Gators is the SEC Championship in Starkville, Miss., on Monday, Nov. 3.
