Crippen & Pinzon Tabbed SEC Swimmers of the Week

For the second week in a row, multiple Gator swimmers garnered SEC Athlete of the Week accolades, announced by the league office Tuesday. For their performances against SEC foe LSU Oct. 22-23, UF freshman Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) was named SEC Female Freshman of the Week, while junior men's swimmer, Omar Pinzon (Bogota, Colombia), was tabbed SEC Male Swimmer of the Week.
Crippen led the way for the No. 4 Gator women in UF's 185-104 defeat over LSU Oct. 23 as the only Gator freshman woman to capture two individual event titles. Crippen walked away with first-place finishes in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:00.79) and the 200-yard IM (2:01.46), while also rallying for fourth in the women's 100-yard breast (1:07.43). Following her LSU performances, Crippen holds the fastest time on the UF squad in the 200 IM so far this season. Additionally, Crippen is one of only three UF women's swimmers to solidify NCAA B cuts after the Gators' first two swim meets. In the season-opener against Michigan and Stanford, Crippen reeled in a B cut in the 400-yard IM, clocking a 4:17.20.
Pinzon set the pace for the UF men with two individual titles as the No. 4 Gator men topped No. 17 LSU, 166-131, Oct. 22. Claiming both the 100-yard backstroke (48.90) and the 100-yard butterfly (48.98), Pinzon also collaborated with Gator men Clark Burckle, Jos Smith and Rex Tullius to capture the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay (1:30.14) against the Tigers. Pinzon's fly mark surpassed his 2007-08 season-best time of 49.04, as he now holds the fastest 100 fly and 100 back times for both UF and the SEC this season.
