The University of Florida volleyball team, winners of 17-straight Southeastern Conference titles, released its 2008 spring schedule on Monday. The Gators, who posted a 29-3 record and made their 16th NCAA regional semifinal appearance in the last 17 years in 2007, will host Florida State in the Lemerand Center and travel to Miami (Fla.) and Georgia Tech before culminating the spring slate with the SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships on the UF campus.
The Orange and Blue will open spring play by hosting Florida State on March 1 at the Lemerand Center, with the action slated to begin at 10 a.m. ET. UF will then take three weeks before traveling to Miami for a date with the Hurricanes and Atlanta for a matchup with the Yellow Jackets on March 29 and April 5, respectively. Start times for both road dates have yet to be determined.
Florida will conclude its spring season on April 12 as hosts of the inaugural SEC Coaches Beach Volleyball Championships, the first beach volleyball tournament held by a Division I conference. Each of the 11 volleyball teams in the SEC have signed on to field three squads of two players, each of whom will engage in pool play to bid for a spot in the evening's medal round. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Southwest Recreation Center (located on Hull Rd. between SW 34th St. and Museum Rd.), and the volleyball portion of the event is free and open to the public.
More details on Florida's road contests will announced at a later date.
