Julianne Lago (Miami, Fla.), of the University of Florida women's swimming and diving team, swam her way to Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors, as announced by the conference this afternoon, thanks to her performance against Tennessee over the weekend.
Lago totaled 16 points for the Gators, who defeated Tennessee 156-144, thanks to a first, second and third place finish. She picked up her first points of the evening as part of the 400 medley relay team that finished third with a time of 1:45.07. Lago's split of 24.50 in the butterfly stroke was the second fastest split of the relay in the fly.
Lago picked up a provisional time of 2:00.54 with her first place finish in the 200 fly. Her time was a season best for the freshman as well as the top-time of any Gator this year. Lago returned for her second provisional time of the day in the 100 fly, touching the wall second with a time of 55.17 for her fourth best swim in a short-course yards dual meet this season.
The Gator women will be in action again this weekend as they play host to Florida Atlantic on February 9 at 1:00 p.m. The meet will mark the final time Florida will be in action in the O'Connell Center this season as they wrap up their regular season schedule. A ceremony to honor the team's seniors will take place before the meet at approximately 12:30 p.m.
