Gators Earn Public Recognition From NCAA For Multi-Year APR Success

The University of Florida volleyball team received public recognition from the NCAA on Thursday as one of 41 collegiate women's volleyball teams to post multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of all squads across the nation.
In addition to taking its place as one of fewer than 50 teams from around the country and one of only two Southeastern Conference members to be honored by the NCAA, UF is one of only four teams from the final AVCA/CSTV top 25 poll of the season to earn the accolade. The Gators are also one of just eight teams that qualified for the 2007 NCAA Championship field to make the list.
“This recognition is a tribute to the quality of student-athletes whom we've been fortunate enough to have as part of our program over the last few years,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “When you add in the terrific support and guidance they receive from our Office of Student Life, it makes a winning combination.”
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in its calculation, and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. Teams that earned the recognition, which is being handed down as part of a broad Division I academic reform effort, achieved scores that ranged from 965 to a perfect 1,000.
