The University of Florida women's swimming and diving program was once again well represented on the Southeastern Conference's Winter Academic Honor Roll as 22 student-athletes were named to the list. The total was the leagues highest number reported by any sport on the list and represented nearly half of Florida's total in any sport.
With the 13 selections to this year's list, head coach Gregg Troy has now mentored a total of 142 athletes that have been named the SEC's academic honor roll. Last season the Gators placed 19 on the list.
Florida led by senior Katie Ball who picks up her fourth and final honor as a Gator. Seniors Colleen Healy, Kim Larson and Natalie Pike finish their careers with three honors each. Jeana Bartell, Caroline Burckle, Caroline Drab, Sarah Ellerby, Laurabeth Guenthner, Amanda Hartley, Leah Retrum, Kelsy Smith and Whitney Stern each picked up their second honor while Jenne Ballatore, Kristen Beales, Liz Kemp, Coral Lopez, Sarah Peterson, Stephanie Proud, Whitney Stern, Lauren Winter and Lindsay Woodward each picked up the first such honor of their career.
Florida' 48 student-athletes on the winter academic roster marked the second-best figure in the conference, only Kentucky had a better total with 53. To be recognized for the award, student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.0 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above at the nominating institution, be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if not on scholarship, have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution and, finally, have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
Academic advisement for UF student-athletes is provided by the Office of Student Life, which seeks to prepare those individuals for life after college. The OSL offers programs and services that promote independence, self-reliance, personal values and leadership skills within each student-athlete on the Florida campus.
Tim Aydt serves as the academic counselor for the Gator swimming and diving teams, assisting the student-athletes with course scheduling and career planning, as well as facilitating an ideal learning environment for each student-athlete based on individual needs.
