Alberter And Glasser Named To SEC T&F Community Service Teams
Monday, May 12, 2008 | Track and Field
University of Florida senior Eric Alberter (Belleville, Ill.) and freshman Daisy Glasser (Atlantic Beach, Fla.) were named to the Southeastern Conference Track & Field Community Service Teams on Monday afternoon in an announcement by the league office.
A 2007 outdoor All-American in the 4x400m relay, Alberter has been active in the fight against cancer, donating time to the Climb for Cancer Sports Camp during his tenure at UF. He has also participated in the Children's Miracle Network, in which student-athletes spend time with children in the pediatrics ward at SHANDS Hospital. He currently ranks fourth in the NCAA East Region and 17th overall in the 800m with a top time of 1:48.94.
In addition to setting UF freshman records in both the indoor and outdoor pole vault this season, Glasser has logged nearly 50 hours of community service during her first year at the University. Like Alberter, she regularly takes part in the Children's Miracle Network, as well as the Climb for Cancer Sports Camp. Glasser has also worked with Alachua County youth as a volunteer for the Adopt-A-Team and Cooking 101 programs, and has donated time to the intramurals program at Stephen Foster Elementary School. She set a personal best last weekend in the pole vault with a winning clearance of 3.95m/12-11.50 at the Twi-Light Invitational in Tallahassee.
The Gators will kick off the four-day SEC Outdoor Championships in Auburn, Ala., on Thursday with the opening events of the decathlon. The UF women will be in search of the program's fifth SEC title, while the men will have their sights set on the team's fourth league crown. Live results will be available via www.GatorZone.com.
