Wilks, Team USA Advance to 4x100m Final at IAAF World Junior Championships
Friday, July 11, 2008 | Track and Field
Freshman Florida sprinter Terrell Wilks (New Haven, Conn.) and the U.S. Junior National Team finished first in their heat and first overall in the 4x100-meter relay Friday at Zawisza Stadium to advance to Saturday's final at the 2008 IAAF World Junior Championships.
With Wilks running the anchor leg, the United States finished in a time of 39.37. The top two teams in each of the three heats, plus the next two fastest times advanced to the finals.
The US relay team consists of Dante Sales, Antonio Sales, Marquise Goodwin and Wilks. The United States' time of 39.37 is the best this season of any country headed into Saturday's final.
Wilks on Wednesday claimed the bronze medal in the men's 100-meter dash, finishing third in the event in a time of 10.45 (-0.8).
In late June, Wilks won the 100-meter dash at the USA Junior Championships in Columbus, Ohio. He won the final in a time of 10.19, easily out-distancing runner-up Antonio Sales of South Carolina, who clocked a time of 10.33. Wilks also finished third in the 200-meter dash at that event in a time of 21.08 (-2.2).
Wilks was part of UF's third-place 4x100-meter relay team at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, in mid June.
