Cross Country Announces 2008 Schedule
Head Coach Mike Holloway announced the 2008 cross country schedule, which features three meets before the SEC Championships in Starkville, Miss.
The Gators kick off the season with the annual Mountain Dew Invitational, held at the University of Florida's Golf Course on Sept. 20, 2008. The men's 8K race will begin at 7:30 a.m., while the women will run the 5K at 8:00 a.m. Last year, both team took the top spots, as the women finished first of 19 and the men placed first of 16 teams.
Returning runner Sean Blaney (Kissimmee, Fla.) finished second overall. On the women's side, Lindsay Sundell placed second, followed by her teammates taking the four through eight spots.
On Oct. 3, 2008, Florida travels to South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational. Then on October 18, the Gators compete in the Pre-NCAA Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., where the women placed 10th of 35 in 2007. Jacy Kruzel (Cooper City, Fla.) was the top Florida finisher, placing 24th.
The SEC Championships, hosted by Mississippi State, will be held on Nov. 3, 2008. The men placed second in 2007 while the women took fourth. Jeremy Criscione (Interlachen, Fla.) took second overall. The South Region Championships will take place on November 15 and the NCAA Championships will conclude the season on November 24. In 2007, the women's team placed 11th at the national event for the highest finish in Florida history.
The Gators are returning four All-SEC runners in Blaney, Criscione, Kruzel and Rebecca Lowe (Vaucluse, Australia). Blaney, Criscione, Lowe and Sara Petrick (Apollo Beach, Fla.) earned All-South Region nods as well.
