The Gators will have a single practice on Monday, while participating in other administrative events, such as receiving their new uniforms and taking the team photo. Two-a-day practices will commence on Tuesday, as most days until the start of school will feature a morning session and an afternoon session.
All players reported to campus this past weekend to prepare for the upcoming season and enjoyed their annual team dinner at the home of head coach Mary Wise with coaches, support staff and parents also in attendance.
“It's always an exciting time when we start a new season,” Wise said. “With so many new faces on our team this year, it gives the first day of practice an even more special feel.”
Florida returns seven players from a year ago, including libero Elyse Cusack (Melrose, Fla.), an All-America honorable mention selection in 2007, and seniors Kelsey Bowers (Gainesville, Fla.) and Christina Diaz (Hollywood, Fla.) The Gators will be seeking their 18th consecutive Southeastern Conference title and their 18th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Florida has advanced to the NCAA round of 16 in 16 of the last 17 years.
The Gators begin their 2008 season by hosting the Aquafina Invitational in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Florida's first match is set for 7 p.m. on Aug. 29 when the Gators play host to UAB.
