Florida Volleyball Notebook - Aug. 17

Cameras have been added atop each of the four walls of the gym, as part of Florida's volleyball video system to allow optimum viewing of the action from any angle. Previously, the practices were videotaped by one camera on the northern-most wall of the facility.
“In the past, we just had a one-camera view,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “Now, with a four-camera view, based on whatever skill we want to look at, we can from one of those four angles, whether it be behind the team, along the net or across the net. No matter what court we're on here in this gym, we have a great view.”
In addition to the insight that it provides the Florida coaching staff, the new video system with instant viewing ability inside the gym has been a great asset to Florida's players as well.
“Because the system is all digital, we can show the video to the players at any time on a flat-screen monitor on the wall in the middle of practice or in between practice sessions,” Wise said. “It's a wonderful learning tool. With Saturday's scrimmage, they all got a copy of the video. Some of that we will watch them and some they will take home and watch.”
The Gators begin their 2008 season by hosting the Aquafina Invitational in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Florida's first match is set for 7 p.m. on Aug. 29 when the Gators play host to UAB.
