Cross Country's Josh Izewski Named SEC Freshman of the Week

University of Florida's Josh Izewski (Doylestown, Pa.) earned the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Week award for his fourth-place finish at the Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday.
Izewski, a former Pennsylvania state champion in the indoor 2-mile, scored for the Gators in his very first meet in a Florida uniform. His 8K time of 25:15.94 placed him fourth out of 139 participants.
Izewski started the season pacing a 5:05 mile, fourth-best among the Gators. The last time a UF male runner finished in the top five was in 2006, when now-junior Aaron Kindt (Orlando, Fla.) took third at Tampa's Early Bird Classic.
The newcomer helped the Gators take first of out 13 teams in the 20th annual invite with 15 points. Nine of the top-10 spots were filled by UF runners. Florida will compete again on Friday, Oct. 3 in the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind., at 2 p.m.
