Jo Mather to Compete in Riviera/ITA Singles & Doubles Pre-Qualifying Draws

University of Florida freshman Jo Mather (Duluth, Ga.) begins play at the 2008 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Tennis Championships on Saturday, when she will compete in the singles and doubles pre-qualifying draws played at Pepperdine's Ralph's-Straus Tennis Center.
Mather plays Texas' Stephanie Davison in the first round of the 64-player singles draw, attempting to earn one of eight open spots in the qualifying draw. The 64-player qualifying draw then whittles down to eight players, who feed into the main draw of the prestigious national event considered the first let of the collegiate Grand Slam.
There are two singles rounds schedule for the opening day of play in the pre-qualifying draw, as well as one doubles round in the 32-team event. Mather pairs with Gator junior Anastasia Revzina (Russia) in the pre-qualifying stage aiming for one of four slots in the qualifying doubles draw. Mather and Revzina take on TCU's Nina Munch-Soegaard and Maria Babanova in the first round.
Qualifying competition for the Riviera/ITA All-American begins September 30 and played at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., with the main draw getting underway on October 2nd.
Revzina, Megan Alexander (Dallas, Texas) and Marrit Boonstra (Netherlands) earned a spot in the 64-player singles qualifying draw. On the strength of their regional and national ranking, sixth-ranked Alexander and Boonstra received an automatic spot in the 16-team doubles main draw.
