Salamone Claims One-Meter Title at Tennessee Diving Invite

After a second-place showing on the three-meter board at the Tennessee Diving Invite Saturday, junior Kara Salamone (Hollywood, Fla.) returned Sunday to capture the one-meter championship with a season-best score of 293.10.
Three other Gators, including senior Whitney Stern (Safety Harbor, Fla.) and sophomore Monica Dodson (Franklin, Ind.) from the women's side and freshman Anthony Lewark (Davie, Fla.) on the men's side advanced to the 12-man final on their respective boards Sunday.
All men's diving invite participants competed in the three-meter competition Sunday, with Lewark racking up 303.30 points to finish ninth overall in the final round after posting 324.80 (9th) in morning preliminaries.
Also joining Lewark in prelims were two Gators in senior Aaron Leech (Newark, Del.) (243.70) and sophomore Grayson Patten (West Palm Beach, Fla.) (223.95) to finish 30th and 38th, respectively.
On the women's side, Stern and Dodson posted scores of 255.40 and 243.90 to place seventh and eighth in finals of the one-meter competition.
Senior Jeana Bartell (Boca Raton, Fla.) narrowly missed finals after finishing 17th in prelims (237.75), while freshman Kaylee Doback (Brandon, Fla.) finished 23rd (224.85) out of the 53-woman preliminary field.
The 2009 Tennessee Diving Invitational wraps up Monday with the men's and women's platform competition at 11:30 a.m. from the Allan Jones Aquatic Center.
