Men's Tennis Duo Wins Doubles Draw at Seminole Invitational
Monday, October 5, 2009 | Men's Tennis
The University of Florida men's tennis team scored a doubles championship and the runner-up in singles action as the Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State University wrapped up on Sunday. Johnny Hamui (Wesley Chapel) and Daniel Cash (Oslo, Norway) took the doubles championship, while Erik Corace (Naples) put forth a strong effort in the singles final.
It marks the third consecutive year that the Gators have claimed a championship at the event, as the singles draw was won by Alexandre Lacroix (Paris, France) in 2007 and Carlos Cueto (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain) in 2008.
Hamui and Cash defeated Central Florida's Johan Beigart and Blaze Schwartz in the semifinals, 8-3, before cruising past Daniel Moser and Tyrone Ewels of Alabama-Birmingham in the final, 8-2.
In the singles final, Corace was taken down by South Florida's Mark Oljaca, 6-2, 7-6(3).
UF will be in action this week as the ITA All-American tournament takes place in Tulsa, Okla. Hamui and Antoine Benneteau (Boulogne-Billancourt, France) will participate in the qualifying rounds, and Lacroix will be part of the main draw.
