Former Gator Lorenzo Claverie Goes Undefeated in Davis Cup Debut for Team Venezuela

Recent senior for Florida Men’s Tennis, Lorenzo Claverie made his Davis Cup debut for Team Venezuela this past week in Costa Rica.
SAN JOSÉ, Costa Rica – The Group III Americas Davis Cup competition took place last week from June 9-13. The six countries being represented in the tournament were Guatemala, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Costa Rica and Jamaica.
The six teams competed on hard courts in a round-robin type tournament, aiming to be in the top three by the end of the tournament. The three teams ranked in the top three earn a promotion to next year's World Group II Playoffs, while the bottom two teams will be relegated to Americas Group IV.
Former player Lorenzo Claverie represented his home country of Venezuela in the tournament, where he played singles. In the singles portion of the tournament, Claverie finished with an undefeated record of 5-0, never dropping a set in the tournament. Claverie's efforts helped Team Venezuela be the only team undefeated with a 5-0 record and will be one of the three teams promoted to compete in next year's World Group II Playoffs.
