The No. 10 Florida volleyball team plays host to No. 19 LSU at 7 p.m. ET Friday in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Prior to Thursday's practice, head coach Mary Wise addressed the media. Select quotes from that session are available below:
FLORIDA HEAD COACH MARY WISE
“We hope that everyone who's not headed to South Carolina on Friday will be here in the O'Connell Center. It's a big match, not only in the SEC, but one of the big matches that are going on in the country this week. Two top-20 teams are playing against each other in November, so there's a lot at stake.”
On Florida's first meeting with LSU earlier this season …
“In that match, we just felt we got outplayed, but we also identified that there were some areas we could improve on. We really worked hard from that moment on. You look at the scores - we haven't dropped a set since then. We've paid attention to the details, the players have given a consistent effort in practices and matches and we're a better team. Is it enough to beat LSU? We'll find out. We're closer than we were the first time we played them.”
On the importance of Friday's match vs. LSU in the SEC race …
This match is no more important than Sunday's match against Auburn or two weeks ago on the road against Mississippi State. We're all still chasing Kentucky. I think the fact that the team had a real solid understanding of that is why we have continued to improve.
