No. 5 Gators Head to Gamecock and Georgia Tech Invitationals
Thursday, November 19, 2009 | Women's Swimming & Diving
After nearly a two-week training period without dual meet match-ups, both top-five Florida swimming and diving squads are back in action Thurs., Nov. 19, through Sun., Nov., 22, for competition at two high-profile invitational meets. The two squads will each divide for the South Carolina Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C., and the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. The Gamecock Invitational runs Nov. 19-21, while competition at the Georgia Tech Invitational is slated to begin Nov. 20 and conclude Nov. 22.
In the first College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Dual Meet Poll, released Nov. 17, the Florida men's team checked in at No. 4, while the women are ranked fifth. With an overall record of 4-2 (1-1 SEC), the Gator women have faced two of the toughest teams in the nation in No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Stanford. While UF was just edged by both conference rival Georgia and Stanford, the Orange and Blue has turned in an impressive number of NCAA provisional marks to complete a successful fall thus far.
On the men's side, Florida is still undefeated in dual meets (3-0, 1-0 SEC), and heads to the Georgia Tech campus for the second time this season after defeating the Yellow Jackets, 161-123, in a dual meet Oct. 23. Both the Florida men and women will be in competition in Atlanta and Columbia, respectively.
